Congratulations to U-High's Josh Potter!
The University of Chicago Laboratory Schools Head Boys' and Girls’ coach, Josh Potter, was recognized in the latest 2021-2022 United Soccer Coaches (USC) Class of the 30 under 30 Program. Potter has been the head coach since 2017 on the Boys side and after being an assistant since 2016 on the Girls program has been appointed the Head Coach this past season. In addition to his coaching at The University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, he works with kids in the inner city of Chicago to provide opportunities to introduce the game of soccer so the game can continue to grow to players of all backgrounds.
USC Awards Jason Ahonen (Warren) and Tony Madonia (Hinsdale Central) for 2021 Coaching Distinction
Congratulations to Warren (Gurnee) High School Head Varsity Boys' Soccer Coach Jason Ahonen being recognized as the 2021 United Soccer Coaches Spring North Boys' Regional Coach of the Year!
Jason just finished his 14th season and led his Blue Devils in the Spring 2021 campaign to a perfect 15-0-0 season. Overall he is 194-80-51 and has won two consecutive North Suburban Conference (NSC) titles for Spring 2021 and Fall 2021. Congratulations Jason!
Hinsdale Central's Head Varsity Girls' Soccer Coach Tony Madonia was recognized in the latest 2021-2022 United Soccer Coaches Class of the 30 under 30 Program. Started in 2013, the coaching educational and mentorship program supports coaches under the age of 30.

Congratulations to Norm Hillner - 2022 USC ~ Robert W. Robinson High School Long-Term Service Award
Norm Hillner, a United Soccer Coaches member since 1981, spent 33 years as a high school coach, primarily at Lake Park High School in Roselle, IL., where he served as boys head coach for 28 years. He was one of the Illinois High School Association’s winningest boys’ soccer coaches with a career record of 369-211-71. Norm has been an executive board member of the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association (IHSSCA) since 1986, serving as president in 1988 and again from 2003-2008. He was inducted into the IHSSCA Hall of Fame in 2007.
Hillner has served as the Midwest Region chair of the United Soccer Coaches Boys High School All-America Committee for the past 15 years. In addition, he was the Illinois state chair of the Boys High School Coach of the Year Committee.
As president of the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association, Hillner was influential in negotiating a partnership with United Soccer Coaches to promote membership, awards, education and the Convention within the state association and the state of Illinois. He assisted several other Midwestern states in organizing similar high school soccer coaches associations for partnerships with United Soccer Coaches.
Formerly, the Director of Operations for Men’s Soccer at Northwestern University, Hillner remains active with IHSSCA as Executive Board Advisor and chairs its Hall of Fame Committee. He received a Certificate of Appreciation from United Soccer Coaches in 2012 and was a 2014 recipient of its Letter of Commendation.
